Custom size your sauna and build your own!

KitsIf you're planning on building a sauna, you've come to the right place. Before reading this page, check out our Sauna Heaters and Kits page, which has packages intended for several traditional sauna sizes. If the sauna you are building doesn't match one of those sizes, then this page will help.   To see larger photos and examples of these heaters being used in real saunas, click on the main product image above. Units received may vary slightly in appearance from the photos. The blue color is a covering. The actual unit is not blue.

What can I get here?

From this page you can determine how many FIR heat units you need to order the right amount housings/reflectors, solid ceramic far infrared emitters and digital temperature and timer controls.

All you need to know is the cubic feet of your sauna, which can be found using Length x Width x Height.   Then use that number in the following formula to determine how many watts of power you will need for your sauna (you can always call us at 888-742-3404 for assistance).

The formula:

You need to have approximately 17 watts per cubic foot of area.  So multiple your length x width x height to get your cubic feet.  Multiply your cubic feet x 17 to determine your total watts.  Divide that number by 163 and you'll know how many emitters you need.  Because there are two emitters in each set, divide your final number by two to know how many sets you need.

L x W x H = Cubic Feet
Cubic Feet x 17 = Total Watts
Total Watts / 163 = Number of Emitters
Number of Emitters / 2 = Number of Sets Needed (we recommend rounding off to get an even amount of emitters.

A Quick Example:

If your sauna will be 4'x4'x6', your formula would look like this:
4 x 4 x 6 = 96 cubic feet
96 cu. ft. x 17 = 1632 watts
1632 watts / 163 = 10 (number of emitters needed)
10 / 2 = 5 (total sets needed)

If the formula says you need an odd number of emitters always round up.  If you needed eleven emitters for example you'd buy six sets.  It's better to have slightly more than too little.

Digital Timer and Temperature Control

If you need a controller for your sauna, you can add one by clicking here.

For more information on how to build your sauna and general placement tips, check out our Sauna Heaters and Kits page.  Now that you know how many sets of emitters/housings/controls you need, you can add them via the drop down menu below.
