The Bokashi Bucket Compost System quickly ferments without the smell.
Organic Nutrient Rich Fertilizer in just two weeks. Compost your food waste to make valuable garden fertilizer. The Bokashi Bucket inoculates food waste in an airtight bucket with a dried material know as EM-1 Bokashi. The EM-Bokashi will ferment the food waste, preventing it from rotting, and therefore eliminate the odor or the attraction to flies. After the food waste is pickled, you can add it to an existing compost pile, feed it to worms, or bury it in an existing garden bed.

One or Two Four Gallon Bokashi Buckets with Drainage Spouts
One or Two 2lb Packages of Organic EM-1 Rice Bran Bokashi
Method of Composting Using the Bokashi Bucket
- Sprinkle a small amount of EM1 Bokashi on the bottom.
- Add food waste (meat and dairy are fine, try to keep out extra moisture like, milk, etc.)
- Sprinkle EM1 Bokashi on the food waste enough to cover it.
- Incorporate the EM1 Bokashi into the new food waste to coat it with EM1 Bokashi.
- After the bucket is full (which generally takes one week for two-three people), let it sit, tightly closed, for at least one week to ferment. (Allowing it to sit longer is fine, just make sure the materials aren’t too wet. This will cause rotting and odor.)
- After fermenting, bury the contents and cover with at least 8 inches of soil so as not to attract animals.
- After another two weeks, you can plant directly into the soil.
Alternate Method:
- Follow steps 1-6 above.
- Incorporate the materials from the bucket into your compost pile, covering with at least 8 inches of compost materials.
- Turn the compost pile as you normally would. The materials from the bucket with boost the anaerobic bacteria in your compost and add valuable vitamins, antioxidants, and EM1 Bokashi.
- Cover with 8 inches of soil and do not plant in for at least two weeks.
