The SoPhTec Magnetic Water Softener and Conditioner uses magnets to keep your water pipes and water heater clean of calcium and lime deposits.
The Magnetic Home Water-Conditioning System by SoPhTec consists of two ceramic magnets - the main and largest which clamps around the cold water pipe entering your home, and the smaller which clamps around the outlet pipe of your standard home hot water heater. These two units work together to increase your satisfaction and make sure that you get all the benefits of conditioning your hard water.
Magnets are considered physical water conditioners and help to solve your problems with hard water inexpensively, without consuming energy or wasting water, without adding or removing anything from your water, without chemicals, without polluting the environment, and without hassle, maintenance or service. Both are a part of the SoPhTec Home Water Conditioning System. They can be used separately but it is highly recommend to use both units on one system for maximum effectiveness.
Both have a heavy duty stainless steel housing for outstanding strength under extreme conditions. It utilizes permanent ceramic magnets, brass and stainless-steel attaching parts, and zinc electroplated steel pole pieces. The design of both units is the result of extensive testing. Several candidate configurations for the magnets were investigated over the range of flow rates that a homeowner would typically encounter. The final design is the configuration that provided at least 75% "affectivity" over the entire range of flow rates.
If you have a swimming pool or spa, you should install a dedicated C-500 on its recirculation (filtration) system. If you have a very large home (bigger than 4500 square feet), you might benefit from installing a second C-500 on the main water supply line or even on the inlet line to the water heater.
How does it work?
Scale is a coating or precipitate deposited on surfaces that are in contact with hard water. The most common form of scale is calcium carbonate. Scale is most visually evident as hard white deposits which build up in faucets, shower heads, toilets, bath tubs, glassware in residential houses and in commercial use such as coffee and ice makers, and in industrial use such as cooling towers, boilers, heat exchangers and evaporators. Many billions of dollars are lost due to equipment failure or replacement caused by scale buildup.
The Electronic water softener unit is composed of a signal cable that is wrapped several times around the pipe and an electronic unit that sends out a complex, dynamic current to produce extremely small, time-varying oscillating fields inside the pipe. The current that produces a oscillating field is known as Ampere's Law.
Electronic water softeners signal produces a unique square wave current that sweeps all the frequency responses from 1,000 - 12,000 Hz at a rate of 20 times a second. When the strength of the oscillating field varies with time and changes direction, an induced current is produced inside the pipe, a phenomenon known as Faraday's Law of Induction.
As the induced electric field oscillates, all particles which have an electrical charge are affected by the induced field. This causes the unstable mineral ions to precipitate or collide with each other to the point where the calcium carbonate crystals grow until they become so large that there are no more surface charges left to stick to the pipe walls. These calcium molecules precipitate into an aragonite form and flow through the system. As a byproduct of this "snowball" effect, freed water molecules become available to remove existing scale, molecule by molecule.

ppm divided by 17.1 = grains
Typically we can treat up to and over 40 grains or 685 ppm, and even higher depending on the water quality. We have successfully treated up to 60 grain water hardness.
The C-500 weighs six pounds. Its shipping size is 6" x 6" x 4". Fits pipe size 1/2" to 2" outside diameter.
Note: iron will have a much harder time staining because iron adheres to the rough surface that calcium carbonate creates. This roughness is nearly eliminated with the use of this unit, but the unit does not remove iron itself.
