Promolife carries a variety of sunlamps for tanning, replenishing Vitamin D and relieving Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Wavelengths from the sun can start a chemical chain reaction in your body that produces Vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiencies may help explain some cases of autism, breast cancer progression, prostate cancer and other illnesses. It can boost bone strength by encouraging the body to absorb calcium. Vitamin D may also help ward off diabetes, multiple sclerosis, gum disease and some cancers.

Taking Vitamin D supplements can be helpful, but very little is actually absorbed from most marketed vitamins. The sun's rays are also shown to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is caused in part by limited sun exposure. Think of it this way - a lot of people get depressed around the holidays, when they stay inside more due to the cold. A little sunshine can go a long way.

Sunshine, without massive humidity conditions, can also inspire you to get up and go. A sunny day can make everyday tasks a lot less onerous to pull off.

And of course, some people just like a good tan.

Getting more sun without going outside

Some of us work all day inside and miss the best parts of the sun's journey. Some of us simply enjoy the night more than daytime and loathe the idea of getting up during the morning hours. Some of us live in places where periods of time outside can actually be unhealthy. Whatever the reason, it can be nice to have a source of the sun's beneficial rays that can be used inside a home or anywhere else with a power outlet.

Types of sun lamp emissions

• UV-A: known as the “tanning ray,” UV-A is primarily responsible for darkening the pigment in our skin.
• UV-B: the ultraviolet wavelength that stimulates our bodies to produce vitamin D.

All of our Sunlamps emit UVA and UVB as follows:

• UVA - 70% of emitted light (320-400 nanometers)
• UVB - 30% of emitted light (260-320 nanometers)
• Bulb life:  Used 10 min/day = 4 years
• Bulb spectrum compared with sunlight spectrum at apex of sky on the longest day of the year: 99.99%

While all of these sun lamps are very beneficial and can help with skin conditions, emotional and mental disorders and bump up your Vitamin D production, there can always be too much of a good thing. You should always use these lamps only for the recommended treatment times. It is better to slowly tan over a couple of weeks than to get there in one day and potentially harm yourself. It is always recommended to speak to a doctor before starting any health regimen.

Comparing Sunlamp models

All sunlamps contain the same bulb except for the Psoriasis PhotoTherapy Lamp (which is stronger) and the Vitamin D Lamp (more UVB). The Vitamin D lamps have a five minute timer and all the rest have ten minute timers.

All the sunlamps come in a table top or floor stand model (with tripod). Some have digital controls, the rest have manual controls. All sunlamps contain UVA and UVB.  All Sunlamps come with the following: UV eyewear, warranty and FDA card, instructions and a reorder form.
