Swimming Pools and Hot Tubs can easily incorporate Ozone (O3) and Minerals (Copper, Silver, Zinc) in an Ionized form that results in chemical free water.

Promolife systems use a combination of Ozone (03) and a Mineral Ionizer (Copper, Silver and Zinc) that will allow you to swim 99.9% chemical free in your swimming pool or hot tub.  These are placed inline after your pool filter. Please read the information below to get yourself acquainted with ozone.

Why Ozone is more effective than Chlorine

Chlorine has been blamed for hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide, yet there is no evidence of any deaths to humans of over exposure to ozone. Ozonation reduces levels of harsh chemicals such as chlorine because it is a much stronger oxidizer and there is no unpleasant chemical taste or obnoxious smell.   Ozone dissolved in water will not burn your nose, irritate your skin and ears, dry out your skin or leave a chemical film. Chlorine and other chemicals used for water treatment have negative effects on the environment. By reducing chlorine consumption to a minimum, you could save hundreds of dollars yearly.

A water ozone machine will oxidize many inorganic and organic impurities as well as inactivate bacteria, viruses and cysts. It oxidizes iron, manganese, heavy metals, sulfide and nitrite types into insoluble types, which can then be removed by filtration. Good filtration is important in removal of high levels of oxidized minerals. It also functions as a clarifying agent to polish and soften the water. Ozonation will oxidize oils and other contaminants in swimming pools and spa water and organic chemicals into safer elements.

During the ozonation process, some compounds like ammonia and cyanide are broken down into nitrogen and water or other safe compounds. In all reactions, the main by-product after oxidation is oxygen. Ozonation does not change the pH, nor does it react with the remaining organics in water to produce carcinogenic compounds.

It is well known that the use of chlorine in combination with heat (from your pool or spa heater and the sun) will produce deadly dioxins.  The use of other pool chemicals such as Baquacil has created many annoying side effects on many people. The use of Ozone and Mineral Ions (if used properly and at the recommended strengths) will eliminate the use of any toxic chemicals and will NOT affect water chemistry.

More Benefits of Ozone vs. Chlorine:

One of the main problems with adopting Ozone is that there is a higher initial capital cost to the swimming pool compared to chlorine. However, over the life of the pool Ozone reduces the on-going operating and maintenance costs. These costs can be significant. Chlorine is famous for destroying pool infrastructures, rusting out ventilation systems and destroying pool liners. Ozone poses no such problems. The Ozone pool will be much cleaner, which means dirt, grease, oils, organics and other materials will wind up in the filter system much faster than with chlorinated systems. That is why proper maintenance of the filter system is important.
Part of the problem in adopting Ozone is that engineers, architects, pool builders and designers are not familiar with the technology. Also there is no PROFIT using ozone when compared with the use of chemicals such as chlorine.

Ultimately:  Chlorine or Ozone?

Chlorine byproducts found in swimming pools are linked to higher incidences of asthma, lung damage, stillbirths, miscarriages and bladder cancer, according to credible research conducted in the U.S., Canada, Norway, Australia and Belgium. One researcher noted that 10-year-old children spending an average of 1.8 hours per week in a swimming pool environment suffered lung damage she would expect to see in an adult smoker. For conscientious swimming pools managers, the question this raises is are there viable alternatives to chlorine? Ozone and ultraviolet are the two most commonly cited technologies.

Dr. John Marshall, of the Pure Water Association, an American consumer group campaigning for safer drinking water, states: "It shows we should be paying more attention to the chemicals we put in our drinking water and we should be looking for other alternatives to chlorination. A number of safe, non-toxic options exist, such as treating water with ozone gas or ultra violet light." Is Ozone viable for swimming pools? Recently a chemical-free public swimming pool was installed in Fairhope, Alabama. It uses Ozone technology and avoids the use of chlorine altogether. This is a first for public pools in North America.

The United States Navy Dolphin program has switched to Ozone technology over the last several years. A spokesman there stated that these systems have delivered the best water quality they have seen out of any systems they tried. Numerous other private, public, commercial, waterparks and hotels and motel pools have switched to Ozone technologies as people become more concerned about chlorine and chlorinated byproducts. For therapy pools (in homes for the handicapped or hospitals, etc), where the demands for water hygiene and quality are extraordinarily high, water treatment with Ozone is compulsory in some countries like in Germany. Ask operators of therapy pools! You will learn that with Ozone treatment problems of trihalomethanes and compound chlorine have never existed and never will.

Importance of Ozone in Pools and Spas

Ozone is a compound of oxygen that is a very powerful oxidant. Ozone is used widely as a non-toxic water sanitizer. More effective than chlorine, ozone oxidizes oils, organics and many other compounds and leaves your water chemical free. Ozone used in pools or spas will not dry your skin or burn your eyes. Mineral Ionizers emit the essence of the metal, in this case copper, silver and zinc. It acts as a fungicide, algaecide and prevents other microorganisms from growing in your water.  When both are used together, when your water chemistry is balanced and pool surface clean and smooth, you can be 100% CHEMICAL FREE.

Ozone is ideal for use in domestic swimming pools and spas for control of common bacteria such as E. coli and Fecal Coliform as well as deactivation of algae, viruses and cysts. Chlorine can take hours to penetrate the cell wall of bacteria or a virus, while O3 oxidation occurs within seconds. Unlike chlorine, ozonation does not produce any negative by-products and is non-carcinogenic.

To determine how many gallons your pool contains, use this formula:   longest length  X  longest width  X  average depth  X   7.5  =  gallon size of your swimming pool.

Note: Ozone and Mineral Ionizers can handle salt content up to 6000 ppm. So if you have salt in your swimming pool and wish to switch over to ozone, you will not encounter any problems as long as you are within this limit.
