Installation and Maintenance

The AutoClor Chlorine Generator is easy to install in new or existing pools. The in-line generating cell is installed on the return side of the filter. The power is then wired to the pump timer circuit. The Chlorine Generator reuses the salt in the water to produce a continuous circulation of clean, clear water, eliminating the need to buy expensive chemicals to treat your pool. The chlorine generator will need 3,000 ppm (salt test kit included) of salt (available at any grocery store) to start the initial process. The salt is only added once or twice a year as pool water is replaced.

How can our electrodes last so much longer than the electrodes in other Generators?

Other systems use plated electrodes and the plating wears off in 1 to 2 years in most cases. The typical replacement cost of other systems is about $600 every 1 to 2 years. Our patented electrodes are the only electrodes made of a solid platinum alloy so there is no plating that can wear off.

How do I determine what size system will treat my pool?

The capacities above are the maximum capacities for a residential pool with a light bather load, Sodium bromide, and stabilizer added to pool water, and with the system operating 24 hours a day. It is very important that you purchase a system that is large enough to properly sanitize your pool. If you are borderline you can start with a model AC3RI and add a model AC3R if needed, if you leave room for another tee fitting to be added to your plumbing.

What do I need to know about my pool when ordering?

You will need to know if your filter pump is connected to 120 or 240 volts, and if your filtration plumbing is
1 1/2" or 2".

How do I install AUTOCLOR to my pool?

You will need to install the tee fittings after the filter and heater, so you will need a 6" space for each tee fitting to be installed. If you need the 24 hour circulating pump kit, you will also need to install the pump tee assembly between the pump and filter which is 13" wide. The AC power is installed so that it has power 24 hours a day when installed with the 24 hour circulating pump kit, or to the pump timer output if installed without the 24 hour circulating pump kit. Most customers install the systems themselves. Your local pool dealer can install it for you if you prefer.

How often do I clean the electrodes?

With AUTOCLOR your electrodes may never need to be cleaned. If the electrodes should need cleaned, they are much easier to clean than any other electrodes as the patented electrodes are the smallest and most compact of any cell.

How do you clean the electrodes?

To clean; turn off the power to the pool pump and your controller. Add 1 part hydrochloric (muriatic) acid to 3 parts water in a covered plastic container. Remove the electrode cell. Place the electrode cell in the solution for five minutes or until all scale is removed. Rinse the cell by dipping it in clean water when clean. Replace the cell using teflon tape. Turn pump and controller power back on. Do not try to clean the electrodes with a brush or any other object. If you use a container with a lid, such as a 1 to 5 gallon plastic container, you can store the cleaning solution and use it many times.

Can an ionizer be used with AUTOCLOR?

Model AC3RI comes with an ionizer and is the model we recommend for most pools. AUTOCLOR must be used with an ionizer which allows only a low .2 parts per million (ppm) chlorine level needed. With the two systems algae problems will be a thing of the past because the ionizer eliminates algae. By using both a Chlorine Generator and Ionizer system you get the benefits of both. The Ionizer reduces the chlorine demand which increases the capacity of the generator, and improves the water quality even more because all you need to do is maintain a low .1 to .2 ppm chlorine level. Why add Bromine Salt?

Adding Bromine Salt (Sodium Bromide) increases the capacity of AUTOCLOR. Bromine Salt is activated by any oxidizing sanitizer or by electrolysis, so the chlorine produced activates the bromine salt adding bromine to the pool water and eliminating all chlorine odors even at high chlorine levels.

Why do I need to add a Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid)?

The liquid chlorine that is produced by AUTOCLOR is not stabilized, and the sun will destroy the chlorine unless a stabilizer is add to the pool water.
