Ozone Air Purifiers use natural activated oxygen to inactivate and eliminate mold, fungi, mildew, viruses and more.
Ozone generators take oxygen (O2) from the air and convert it to ozone (O3). Ozone breaks down to oxygen again in 20-40 minutes, releasing the third oxygen atom to bind to other gaseous elements like microorganisms and odors. When that atom attaches itself, it immediately inactivates or eliminates the contaminate. This makes an ozone air purifier extremely popular in some processing plants, shops and more for odor and pollutant reduction and destruction.
Have you ever notices the fresh, clean smell lightning creates? That is ozone, a process nature uses to clean the air. Ozone can effective reduce or completely eliminate mold, mildew, bacteria, fungus, viruses, chemical gasses, fumes, smoke, cooking odors and more.
There are two ways to create ozone in an air purifier: corona discharge and ultraviolet light. Both methods create the same end result but in UV, ozone is produced from the interaction of light and dispersed by a fan. In corona discharge, an element like a stainless steel plate is subjected to an electric charge, producing ozone that is then sent into the room via a fan.
Which one is the best?
That depends on what your situation calls for: what are you wanting to eliminate, in what size space and what is your budget? You can find small portable units good for boats, vehicles and small rooms like the Jenesco DC12, and the Aqua Sun Model 206A. If you want to clean out your duct work, the ID-125 is designed specifically for that use. The Lightning Air 3500 and some Pionair models are great for homes and offices and a variety of residential and small commercial applications. The Jenesco Air Purifiers can be used in homes and offices but are also widely used in large-scale situations, processing plants and much more. Kleenair models work well in a variety of places as well.
What about negative ions?
Negative ions attach themselves to dander, dust particles and other contaminates, inactivating them and causing them to fall out of the air. Combining negative ions with ozone can give you even more power. The Lightning Air 3500 has the option to use them together or to turn the ozone off and still use the negative ion generator. The Kleenair 2500R and some Pionair models also include negative ions.
