The Shirodhara Oil Therapy System can be used as an Ayurvedic relaxation and balance treatment.

A controlled flow of warm oil is gently poured over the "Ajana" or third eye chakra. The oil then streams down the "Sahashra" or crown chakra, which magnifies the senses, disperses negative electrical impulses that accumulate in the forehead from stress, reverses imbalances within the body, rejuvenates the face and renews the sweetness of life. Shirodhara is one of the most unique therapies available for reducing stress and enhancing cellular intelligence and immunity. It is a relaxing therapy where warm medicated oils are poured from a special vessel onto the center of the forehead, inducing a mental state of deep relaxation. It calms the nervous system and helps to melt away the chattering of the mind.

What is Shirodhara?

In Sanskrit, Shirodhara is composed of two words shiro + dhara. Shiro means head and Dhara means flow of warm oil. The patient lies supine on a flat surface with head back and a rolled towel or pillow beneath the neck. A stream of warm oil is drizzled very slowly onto the center of the forehead (the location of the "third eye") for 60 minutes followed by a gentle scalp massage. The effect is indescribable.  Normally a blend of 50% sesame oil and 50% sunflower oil is recommended, but you can use any blend of oil you wish.

Shirodhara treatment is done in absolute silence. It takes you to deep relaxation and into a balanced state of rest in mind and body. Best experienced after a massage, Shirodhara is one of our most popular Ayurveda treatments. Shirodhara is a great rejuvenating therapy that gives a healthy face and body glow. In Ayurveda, rejuvenating therapy is the golden path to attain longevity as it is aimed at the preservation of health.

Shirodhara helps heal the body at the root level of disease by calming imbalances in your mind and disturbances in your emotions. It leaves you feeling in a heavenly state for the rest of your day. Excessively high Pitta types will usually be guided towards Shirodhara milk as opposed to Shirodhara oil. This is due to the fact that Pitta is heat and is most easily brought back to balance by being cooled. Specially treated Ayurvedic milk holds wonderful cooling properties and is therefore recommended for these types of people.

Manual or Electric available:  The electrical version comes with one pitcher and a pump. The pump recirculates the oil for a continuous flow. The manual version comes with two pitchers and the oil is poured every four to five minutes by the therapist to create a continuous flow. Other than these differences, the units are exactly the same. The manual that comes with the systems explains BOTH ways of doing the treatment, and if a therapist decides they would prefer doing the treatment differently (ie they purchased an electrical system but have decided they would like to do the treatment manually) they can purchase the extra component (either the pump or the extra pitcher) separately. This product ships in 2 boxes: 22" x 14" x 12" - approx 20 lbs and 16" x14" x 6" - approx 4 lbs

NOTE:  All Shirodhara Oil Systems can be adjusted by lengthening or shortening the chain or purchasing extra swag chain from a hardware store. There is about a 6" height adjustment. We can also make the unit any height you wish. We just need the height of your table. There is another way to change the height of the all copper units and this is by cutting the copper pipe with a pipe cutter.
