Traction is defined as the use of a pulling force in treating skeletal and muscular disorders.

Traction is usually used on the neck, back bone, arms, legs, or pelvis in order to treat dislocations, fractures, muscle spasms and to correct or prevent deformities.  Traction aligns the ends of a fracture by pulling the bone into a straight position, ends muscles spasms, relieves pain and takes pressure off bones by relaxing the muscles.
