Electrical frequencies from EMS, IFC and TENS units are used to assist in pain relief from a variety of conditions.
These units are most often used for drug-free pain relief. If you frequently experience pain and your doctor recommends TENS, EMS or IFC therapy, we can help you get what you need. You may also be interested in our other Pain Relief categories.
What are the differences between TENS, EMS and IFC?
|
TENS Units |
| Block pain signals, lower penetration, long lasting pain relief. |
|
EMS Units |
| Deeper penetration, helps reduce muscle atrophy. |
|
IFC Units |
| Deeper penetration, reduces swelling and pain, restores muscle function. |
|
Combination Units |
| Use combination therapies to increase treatment flexibility. |
TENS units use either low frequencies (2-4 Hz) or high frequencies (80-100 Hz) to block pain impulses to the brain. This helps the body produce more natural pain relieving substances and increase blood flow to the area - both help relieve pain. Relief can last for hours.
EMS units (or Electrical Muscle Stimulation) help reduce or prevent muscle atrophy, the weakening and then loss of muscle tone that happens after injuries or surgery. It helps increase blood flow and range of motion and increase muscle strength and endurance. It can also help with pain management by assisting in relieving muscle pains from spastic muscles, tight muscles or sore muscles. EMS signals pentrate deeper than TENS signals and the frequency is usually above 200 Hz.
IFC units (interferential current) is a deeper TENS. It modulates at a high carrier waveform frequency of about 4000 Hz which penetrates deeper and with less user discomfort. In the tissues the waveform is canceled out which produces a TENS like signal deep under your skin. These units are used to reduce swelling and pain, speed healing and restore muscle function. If you have not found relief with a TENS unit, anecdotal evidence suggests an IFC unit may help more effectively.
Note: Prescription is required for most TENS/EMS products. Promolife does not provide medical advice nor will claim these products will provide you with cure or relief. Please consult a licensed medical professional for medical advice before using these products. We suggest that these units be used only by prescription and under the supervision of a licensed physician. Electrical stimulation devices are contraindicated in persons using a cardiac pacemaker, in the 1st trimester of pregnancy, malignancy, and various conditions where circulation is impaired. It may not be used transcerebrally across the head, over the carotid sinus (where the jaw meets the neck), over metal implants or in conjunction with sleep apnea or heart monitors. You should be aware that TENS/EMS units provide symptomatic therapy only and are not considered curative. Promolife assumes no liability for medical problems resulting from use of these units. Please consult your physician about the use of a TENS or EMS unit for your condition.
