Combining ozone, mineral ionizers and optional air dryers can help you achieve a chemical-free swimming pool or spa.

Pool Ozone IonizersPromolife swimming pool and spa ozone sanitizer systems use activated oxygen or ozone (O3) and a mineral ionizer that can help you enjoy 99.9% chemical-free water in your pool or hot tub.  The systems are inline after the pool filter, and optional air dryers are available to dry the air going into the ozone generator, making your ozone unit to last much longer.  Jump to the system options or continue reading for more information on how ozone works in pools and spas.

Is ozone better than chlorine?

Yes, ozone is more than 200 times more effective than chlorine as an oxidizer. Ozone is widely used in the food processing business, in the water treatment industry, in fish ponds, sewage sanitation and even as an air sanitizer/oxidizer. Chlorine has been shown to cause injuries and even deaths in some rare cases. On the other hand there is no proof of any injuries due to over exposure to ozone.  Also many doctors do not recommend children to swim in a chlorinated swimming pools due to the negative health problems it creates. Ozone cleans the water without leaving chemical tastes or bad smells, and it won't irritate your skin, eyes, nose or ears like chlorine can. It's like jumping into a clean fresh mountain feed water lake - refreshing. While chlorine affects pH and water chemistry, ozone does not.  By reducing your chemical use, you could save hundreds of dollars a year not only on the cost of chemicals, but possibly on the cost of medical bills.

How does ozone work?

The ozone generator produces ozone that kills organic and inorganic impurities, bacteria, cysts and viruses.  It will oxidize manganese, sulfide, iron, heavy metals and nitrites that are then easily removed by filtration.  It then clarifies and softens the water while oxidizing oils and other contaminates.  When ozone breaks down cyanide and ammonia, the main byproduct produced is oxygen.

While chlorine can produce deadly dioxins in the heat and other pool chemicals can produce negative side effects, ozone and mineral ions at recommended strengths will not affect water chemistry or produce toxins.

Chlorine is also known for causing pool damage, rusting ventilation systems and destroying liners.  Ozone does not.  Chlorine, when it meets with bacteria or algae, produces Trihalomethane, which causes burning eyes and dry skin.  Ozone does not.  Your pool water will be safer, cleaner and ready for your family to enjoy.

Why an Air Dryer is important

Air dryers are highly recommended to dry the air flowing into the ozone generator, greatly increasing the life of the system.  Pools and spas are humid places, and generators won't last as long if they are taking in humid air.  An air dryer solves that problem.

Which system is right for me?

If you have any questions, feel free to let us know.  You need to choose the right system for your size pool or spa.  In order to find out how many gallons your pool holds, use this formula:  Longest Length x Longest Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Gallons.  Then you can determine the system size you need.
.
Note:  Ozone and Mineral Ionizers can handle salt content up to 6000ppm, so if you have salt in your pool, you shouldn't have any problems with ozone as long as you're under that limit.
