Sunlamps and Full Spectrum Lights are great for treating Seasonal Affective Disorder and other problems.
Both sunlamps and full spectrum lights are useful for Seasonal Affective Disorder and assisting in Vitamin D production. Sunlamps can also be used for tanning. Choose the type of lamp you're interested in below.
What is the difference between a full spectrum light, a psoriasis lamp and a sunlamp?
The light from a full spectrum light box or bulb is designed to enter the eyes indirectly while you work, read or relax. The light indirectly entering the eye naturally stimulates areas of the brain that help with Seasonal Affective Disorder and can help with the production of melatonin. They do not emit UV. Researchers in the US, Europe, Australia, Asia and Canada are having success for patients with SAD using full spectrum light.
The light from a sunlamp like the Fiji is focused on your body, not your eyes, and is used to stimulate Vitamin D and tanning. The Sperti Vitamin D Lamp is a sunlamp specifically designed to raise Vitamin D levels without tanning. The PH-36 Psoriasis Lamp is FDA approved specifically for treating psoriasis, and requires a prescription.
Sunlamps are considered to be full spectrum lights and emit UVA and UVB rays (see individual products or our sunlamp/tanning page for more information on amounts). Full spectrum lights do not emit UVA or UVB and are rated by their Lux output. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at 888-742-3404 or contact us through email.
