Getting started on the fluoride debate

/ By | Posted in  Articles

The movement to remove fluoride from public water supplies is growing, and it’s a non-partisan, diverse issue.  Communities around the world are opposing fluoride for a variety of reasons and in some places, the protestors are winning.

Some oppose fluoridation based on medical studies; some oppose it for financial reasons; others oppose it because they don’t think a local or state government should force citizens to ingest a drug without individual permission.  Whatever the specific reason, they are uniting in larger numbers.

What’s so bad about fluoride?

FluorideAlert.org has a detailed list of 50 Reasons to Oppose Fluoridation.  A quick rundown includes:

  • Fluoride is intended for medical treatment but administered without informed, individual consent.
  • There is no way to guarantee cont...

The Label GMO movement

/ By | Posted in  Articles, Newsletters

Across the country, health-conscious individuals and groups are fighting to make it mandatory for food companies to reveal their use of GMOs (genetically modified organisms).  The fight is currently centered on California, where Proposition 37 is on the ballet.

Some want GMOs to be labeled as a matter of public health while others have no problem with GMOs per se but believe that consumers have a right to know what they are eating.  Companies on both sides of the issue are battling it out, with GMO-friendly corporations funneling millions of dollars into a campaign to stop labeling.  So in case you are in favor of labeling (or you just like to know who does what to influence voters), here are two important lists.

Brands with ownership supporting the measure to label GMOs:  Amy’s, Baby’s...

Inversion therapy for decompression and pain relief

/ By | Posted in  Articles, Newsletters

Many people deal with back pain, inefficient circulation, toxin buildup, stress and low energy every day.  There are many ways to try and deal with these problems and each have their own advantages for particular situations.  One very natural method is by using inversion.

Inversion therapy is a drug-free method of decompressing the spine, which can lead to relief from back pain, greater circulation and reduced stress.  Inverting can help remove toxins, increase energy, move more oxygen to the brain, improve lymphatic drainage and help better align the weight-bearing skeleton. Many trainers, doctors and physical therapists are using it to aid in preventing fatigue joint injuries.

There are other potential benefits...

Preparation: Choosing the Right Civilian MRE

/ By | Posted in  Articles, Newsletters

If you would rather not surf Ebay for genuine military MREs, can’t find any or just prefer not to buy them, civilian MREs can be good bet.  As I covered in Preparation: Military vs. Civilian MREs and How to Get Them, civilian MREs are widely available across the Internet.  Knowing the good ones from the bad ones and getting the best price is your next step.

A-Pack by Ameriqual

A-Packs are usually the most cost-effective if you buy directly from the manufacturer.  Places like The Ready Store and many others slap a big premium on these and is easily avoidable.  I don’t know if the way too high price is because of bad margins, MAP pricing or just for grins but you’ll save a LOT going direct on these...

Ergometers are great, low impact tools for physical therapy

/ By | Posted in  In General

When I was under physical therapy for my neck, my favorite machine in the office was an ergometer.  If you don’t know, an ergometer is basically a machine with hand grips and/or pedals that allow you to regain motion after an injury, rehab after surgery or get a cardio workout while you’re healing.  Because they cost less than other machines (that I didn’t like at all or as much), are versatile and typically come with a variety of functions, they are extremely popular in clinics and for home use.

I talked to people every time I went to physical therapy and we all agreed that the ergometers were much more fun than the other machines, and didn’t cause the same level of pain some of the others did.

Because many machines have varied resistance levels, they are easy to tailor to your situatio...

Preparation: Military vs. Civilian MREs and How to Get Them

/ By | Posted in  Articles, Newsletters

Series Note:  The Promolife Webmaster has a bit of an obsession with MREs and other survival gear, so these articles are meant for our customers who are also interested in preparation, camping, hiking or adventuring.

This article is designed to give you an introduction to MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), how to tell true military issue from civilian copies and how to get the type you want for your survival or camping kits.

What is an MRE?

Meals Ready to Eat are just that.  They are mostly thought of in a military sense because the United States government supplies them to troops as an easy, transportable meal option.  They have a good shelf life and can be eaten anywhere which has made them extremely popular with survivalists and campers...
