Waking up with organic coffee

CoffeeEveryone I know drinks coffee, usually in large amounts.  So when one of them wondered out loud about organic and fair trade coffees, I decided to dig up some suppliers.  So if you’re looking for organic coffees, here’s a good start.  Not being a coffee drinker myself I haven’t tried them, so feel free to let me know which ones you enjoy.

Getting ready for pool season without chemicals

We did a lot of searching last year to find an easier way to have a clean pool without chemicals like chlorine.  We found one called the CL Free Pool and Spa Sanitizer.  There are three models for pools and three for spas.  Here’s a brief rundown of how they work.

All of the systems can be installed fairly easily with household tools and can be used with any pool or spa surface.  They eliminate the need for non-chlorine shocks, oxidizers or hydrogen peroxide and keep the water clean without dumping loads of chlorine in the pool.

As water circulates in the pool, the flow switch turns on the pool controller...

Some healthier winter recipes

Gingerbread is one of the most popular baked goods during December but you may worry about how healthy it is.  This recipe makes some gingerbread that we found to be quite delicious using some healthier ingredients than many other recipes.

Try this on for size:
Two cups whole wheat pastry flour
One large egg (instead of two) and two large egg whites
One cup of natural brown sugar substitute like Sugar in the Raw
3/4 cup canola oil

This recipe cuts down the whole egg content and replaces the all-purpose flour and vegetable oil.

Fruit salad is another winter favorite but depending on the recipe it can range from moderately healthy to wildly fattening.  Personally, I can’t get enough of the fruit salad my mother used to make, which wasn’t exactly healthy...

Great pumpkin recipes for fall

It’s the time of year when pumpkins are everywhere and not-so-nutritious sweets abound.  While many partake in sugar-fueled shenanigans, you can find healthier options by taking one of those pumpkins and putting it to good use.

Pumpkins have a good dose of vitamin C, potassium and beta-carotene.  As a fiber source they tend to help curb apetite while giving you more food for the same calorie count.  The zinc and unsaturated fatty acids in pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil can be effective when used for prostate ailments.

So if you wanted some holiday-themed sweetness, try out some of these pumpkin recipes (some are healthier than others).

Maple-Pumpkin Custards
Southwestern Pumpkin Burgers
Marbled Pumkin Cheesecake
Pumpkin Coconut Tart
Roasted Pumpkin Apple Soup
Pumpkin Waffles
Pumpki...

Introducing BlueWave Far Infrared Saunas

BlueWave HeatWave Saunas

Three person corner model

We were pretty excited this week to add HeatWave Far Infrared Saunas by BlueWave to our website.  This allowed us to have a lot more options at prices that are more affordable than some other saunas.  We’ll give you a quick rundown and then help you decide which one might be right for you.

There are two types of HeatWave saunas:  cedar and hemlock.  Both are made out of premium wood and are constructed using tongue and groove for strength and durability.  The one and two person saunas come with either ceramic or carbon heaters while the larger models are all outfitted with carbon.

One of the things we like about this far infrared sauna is the features that come built in without additional cost...

Eggplant Bruschetta

Eggplant BruschettaBy Yvonne Segal – With the abundance of eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, garlic and basil in my garden or our local farmers market I decided to look for some delicious recipes involving these ingredients. Here’s one with eggplant that was a big hit here at Promolife. Eggplant can be one of those love or hate vegetables but this recipe was a big hit, even among those who detest eggplants in general. It was given 4.5 to 5 stars by our employees.

Eggplant Bruschetta

1 large globe eggplant roasted
2 med. red, orange, yellow or purple, peppers, roasted
4 cloves of garlic, put through garlic press or finely chopped
1 small red onion diced
1 med. tomato diced
1/4 of fresh basil, chopped
2 or 3 sprigs of fresh oregano
1/4 cup to 1/2 of pitted chopped Kalamata olives (adjust to taste)
Salt to taste
1 t...

Candies and Sugars without GMOs

One of the most important debates happening right now is about labeling GMOs (genetically modified organisms) in the foods we eat.  With Halloween coming up we thought it was a good idea to list some candy and ingredient makers that have been verified by the Non-GMO Project as having products without GMOs:
